The story begins at San Romero High School, the district's main high school, located somewhere on the west coast of the United States. Juliet Starling, the protagonist, is an exceptional San Romero student who is passionate about cheerleading. Her family, the Starlings, has a long history of guiding the undead to the afterlife. The incident takes place on Juliet's birthday. She goes to school to meet her boyfriend, but as she pedals her bicycle into the school grounds, she is greeted by her former classmates, all of whom have been transformed into zombies!
