New chapter, new heroes

Alan Wake 2 is a sequel to Remedy's hit action-adventure game released in 2010. In the first game, Alan Wake comes to the town of Bright Falls to overcome his writer's block. Unfortunately, he has to fight dark and powerful forces instead of working on his new novel. The story is inspired by Twin Peaks, so Bright Falls, just like the town from the famous TV show, hides weird secrets beneath its calm surface. It's also populated by colorful characters, including former rock stars.

The sequel is set 13 years after the events of the original title. This time players can see the game's world through the eyes of two playable characters: the well-known Alan Wake and a newcomer, FBI agent Saga Anderson. The latter comes to Bright Falls to solve the mysterious string of murders, but her investigation turns to horror when she starts finding pages of stories that suddenly come true.

Release date

Remedy announced Alan Wake at the Game Awards 2021. Initially, the studio didn't specify the date of the premiere and only declared that the game would come out in 2023. The release date was revealed later as October 17. Alan Wake 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Gameplay

Alan Wake 2 continues its predecessor's story, but it's a survival horror, not an action game with horror elements. Thus, the gameplay is quite different from the first game, as you have to use your limited resources wisely to take down powerful enemies. Also, both protagonists have to deal with slightly different challenges since Alan is trapped in the Dark Place. However, the core elements remain intact. For instance, the protagonists will have to face the darkness once more, so flashlight batteries are as valuable as bullets.

Beautiful yet disturbing world

Alan Wake 2 is the best-looking game developed by Remedy, as it utilizes the power of modern computers and consoles to render the idyllic landscapes of Bright Falls and the disturbing sights of the Dark Place. Those outstanding visuals help to immerse you even deeper in Alan Wake 2's complex and multilayered story. It's also worth mentioning that the main actors from the first game return for the sequel.
